This article explains how to re-edit an SOP that has been rejected by an approver in an approval workflow and how to resubmit it for approval.
How to Access a Rejected SOP
Method 1: When an SOP is rejected, you'll receive an email like the one below. Open the SOP from the link in the email.
Method 2: Go to "Drafts / Approvals", check the "Rejected SOP" section, and click on the SOP you want to edit.
When you hover your mouse over the "Rejector" field and see the speech bubble icon, you can also view any comments from the approver.
How to Re-edit a Rejected SOP
- When you access the SOP from above, you can edit it just as you did before starting the approval process. Make any necessary edits.
- To request approval again, use the "Publish" button, just as you did the first time.
Which Approver Reviews When You Resubmit
When sending back an SOP, the person who rejects it can choose between "Start over from the beginning" or "Resume from my step." The default is "Start over from the beginning." In this case, when you resubmit, approval goes to the first approver and continues down the chain.
When an SOP is sent back with "Resume from my step," resubmitting will resume approval from that person's step. This is typically used for minor content changes such as typo corrections. You can verify which option was used when you resubmit.
To prevent "Resume from my step" from being used, the Owner can go to Security Settings and adjust the approval settings in the "Security" tab to disallow resumption from the person who sent it back.
Withdraw a Request Without Waiting for Send Back
If an approver has left the company or been disabled, and approval is stalled, the person who initiated the request can withdraw it. Click "Withdraw" next to the "In approval flow" indicator at the top of the SOP. The SOP will revert to Draft status, and you can edit it and resubmit it as-is.
Only the person who made the request can withdraw it. The withdrawal is recorded in the Revision history.
