You can set, for each SOP, the language that serves as the basis for the subtitle position, text size, and read-aloud. Set it under “Playback & display settings”, which is in [Basic information] on the SOP edit screen. This is done from a PC browser.
What “Follow device setting” means
The default for subtitle position and text size is “Follow device setting”. In this case, subtitles are shown at the position and size that each viewer has switched to on the playback screen. Since each viewer can adjust it to what is easiest for them to see, there is no problem leaving it as is if you only play the SOP.
On the other hand, for MP4 export, the recording opens in a fresh state every time, so the device setting does not take effect. If nothing is specified, the export uses subtitles at the bottom and text size set to Standard. If you want the exports to look the same, specify these on the SOP itself.
Available settings
Original language
Specify the language this SOP is written in. It is the basis for translation and read-aloud. The default is Japanese.
If you leave this unset for an SOP made in a language other than Japanese, the read-aloud audio may not be generated correctly when the SOP is played without translation. Be sure to check this.
For details, see Subtitles and text read-aloud.
Open with the step text pane collapsed
During playback, the text pane on the right opens in a collapsed state. Viewers can open it from the “Step” tab on the divider.
For MP4 export, whether the text pane is shown or collapsed is also decided by this setting. If you want to change it for each MP4, you can also choose it under [Advanced settings] on the export screen (MP4 export).
For details, see Hide the description during playback.
Subtitle position (Advanced display settings)
This is the position where subtitles are shown during playback and MP4 export. If you want to change it for each MP4, you can also choose it under [Advanced settings] in MP4 export.
- Follow device setting (default)
- Bottom / Top / Left / Right
- Off (do not show subtitles)
For subtitles shown at the top or bottom, if they are long, they are widened to nearly the full width of the video. Subtitles that still do not fit on two lines are split into groups of two lines and switched in order as the video plays (the same applies to MP4 export). Only the display is split; the subtitle text itself is not divided. Read-aloud and translation are still done as one sentence.
Text size (Advanced display settings)
This sets the text size of the text pane, step list, and questions during playback and MP4 export. Besides “Follow device setting” (default), you can choose from Very small / Small / Slightly small / Standard / Slightly large / Large / Very large.
The size of text burned into the video itself does not change.
Items to read aloud (Advanced display settings)
These are the items to include in Read text. For each of Tips / Quality warnings / Safety-critical items, you can switch whether it is read aloud.
This only takes effect for steps whose Narration target is “Description.” For steps whose Narration target is “Subtitles,” only the subtitles are read aloud, so switching these has no effect. The Narration target is chosen for each step. For how to choose it, see Subtitles and text read-aloud.
- Step text is always read aloud (it cannot be turned off)
- Items you turn off are left out of the read-aloud audio, but the display on screen does not change
- Switching an item regenerates the read-aloud audio
Use this when the read-aloud becomes too long.
Order of settings
When you open “Playback & display settings,” Original language and Open with the step text pane collapsed, which you should be sure to check, are listed first. Subtitle position, text size, and items to read aloud, which work fine at their default settings, are collapsed under “Advanced display settings”.
