What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication (Two-Factor Authentication / 2FA) is a system that verifies your identity using two methods when you log in. In addition to normal "password authentication," performing one additional authentication increases account security.
Dive supports TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password). To use this feature, you use a common authentication app such as Google Authenticator orMicrosoft Authenticator.
At Dive, you can use two-factor authentication with confidence on all plans, including the Free plan.
Why is two-factor authentication necessary?
Password-only authentication has the following risks:
Password leaks
Use of easily guessed passwords
Unauthorized login due to data breaches from other services
When you enable two-factor authentication, you can prevent unauthorized login even if your password is compromised.
How two-factor authentication works
When you log in, you authenticate using the following two elements combined:
-
Something you know
Password
-
Something you have / Information generated on the spot
Confirmation code displayed in a smartphone authentication app (Dive uses this method)
Confirmation code sent via SMS
Confirmation code sent via Email, etc.
