This setting automatically logs out users after a period of inactivity or a set time from login. It prevents screens from remaining open when users step away and devices staying logged in after users leave. You can choose whether time spent viewing SOPs, during remote support calls, or uploading materials counts as activity, and whether the settings apply to Dive mobile apps.
Available on all plans. Owners configure this from a PC browser.
Open settings
- Open the side menu Owner Functions
- Select the Security tab at the top, and open the Session card
Available settings
Time until logout with no activity
If no activity occurs for this duration, the user is logged out. Choose from 30 min, 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, or No expiration. This includes time when the browser or app is closed.
Do not count the following as no activity
When a checked action is in progress, auto-logout will not occur even if there is no activity. If unchecked, logout will occur after the inactivity period even during these actions. By default, none are checked.
- While the SOP player is shown: Only counted while displayed on screen. Used in work sites where videos play while work continues
- During a remote support call
- While uploading materials: Prevents logout during large video uploads
Maximum time from login to logout
Regardless of activity, re-login is required after this time passes from login. Choose from 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or No expiration.
If the maximum time is set to "No expiration," the login session never ends as long as the user remains active. If both the inactivity time and maximum time are set to "No expiration," the login session will not end automatically.
Apply to Dive mobile apps (smartphones/smart glasses)
When enabled, Dive mobile apps auto-logout under the same conditions. When disabled (default), auto-logout applies only to the browser. On smart glasses, button presses and voice commands are also counted as activity.
Auto-logout exception
Specify groups or users to exclude from auto-logout. Designate users whose work would be disrupted by auto-logout, such as always-on display devices or shared tablets at work sites.
Save
Select your options and click Save. Changes take effect at each member's next login.
Clicking Restore defaults resets the inactivity time to 24 hours and maximum time to 30 days. These values apply to teams that have never saved settings.
Setting changes are recorded in the Audit log (Export audit log as CSV).
Behavior when auto-logout occurs
- The login screen appears with a reason displayed. For inactivity: "You were automatically logged out because there was no activity for a set period." For exceeding maximum time: "Re-login is required because the maximum time from login has passed."
- Any open SOP also closes and returns to the login screen
- On internet-connected devices, offline SOPs saved on the device are deleted (Do you support offline playback of SOPs)
Check logged-in devices and force logout
In the same Security tab, use Logged-in devices to view devices where members are logged in and force logout if needed. Use this when devices are lost or users leave. Devices logged in via Dive mobile apps are also shown.
- Target User: Select the user to check
- A list of devices, login times, and last seen times appears
- To force logout, click Force logout and confirm by clicking Execute in the confirmation screen
When you execute force logout, that user must re-login on all their devices. Changes may take up to 1 hour to take effect. You cannot force logout your own account (use the menu in the top right to log yourself out).
FAQ
Q. Will users be logged out while viewing SOPs and working?
A. If the inactivity time is set and "While the SOP player is shown" is unchecked, logout occurs after the inactivity period even when viewing SOPs. For work sites where videos play continuously, either check this option or add those users to the auto-logout exception list.
Q. Will users be logged out on smartphones or smart glasses apps?
A. Only if "Apply to Dive mobile apps (smartphones/smart glasses)" is enabled. When disabled, auto-logout does not apply to apps.
Q. We have users on shared devices who cannot be logged out.
A. Specify those users or groups in "Auto-logout exception."
