This is how to divide a long SOP at a halfway step into two separate SOPs. Here, we will explain using an example where an SOP with 12 steps is divided into "Steps 1-6" and "Steps 7-12", and Steps 7-12 are published as a separate SOP.
This is performed on a Draft that is being edited. For published SOPs, first revise and open the Draft (see How to Edit a Created (Published) SOP).
Overall Flow
- Complete common edits for both first
- Copy the SOP
- Split the video step block on both the original and copied SOPs
- Delete the unnecessary side on each
- Publish each one
1. Complete Common Edits First
After copying, the SOPs become separate, and editing one will not be reflected in the other. Complete any edits that affect both before copying.
2. Copy the SOP
From Other in the top right of the screen, select Copy as a Separate Procedure, then click Copy and Create New. A Draft is created with "-copy" added to the end of the SOP name, and it opens as is.
3. Split the Video Step Block
Steps created from video are organized into one group for each video (video step block). To be able to delete only Steps 7-12, first split the block between Step 6 and Step 7. Do this on both the original and copied SOPs.
- In the Step list, click on the video step
- Click the split icon in the header of the video step block (the row where "video Step count" is displayed)
- At the top of the screen, switch to Split only
- Click Split here between Step 6 and Step 7
- Click Split here in the bottom right
The image below shows an example of splitting a block with 5 steps between Step 2 and Step 3.
The block is split into two: "Steps 1-6" and "Steps 7-12". Once split, Cut, Subtitles, Shapes, and Audio settings become independent for each block.
For image and File steps, they can be deleted one by one, so this operation is not necessary.
4. Delete the Unnecessary Side
In the Step list, click the delete button (Trash icon) for the block you want to delete. All steps in the block are deleted together.
- Original SOP: Delete the Steps 7-12 block and keep Steps 1-6
- Copied SOP: Delete the Steps 1-6 block and keep Steps 7-12
5. Publish Each One
- Original SOP: Published as a revision of the previous SOP, replacing it with the content of Steps 1-6
- Copied SOP: Published as a new SOP (Rev.0). Before publishing, change "-copy" in the SOP name in Basic information > Title
Do Not Delete Before Splitting
If you delete one video step in the Step list before splitting the block, all steps in the same block will be deleted. There is no confirmation message for the delete. If you want to delete only some steps, be sure to split the block first.
If you delete by mistake, you can return to the state before deletion using the Undo button at the top of the screen (see Undo an operation). When you cannot undo after reopening the screen, etc., you can restore to the state before deletion from Save history (see Restore to the previous save state).
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you split into 3 or more?
Yes. Copy the SOP as many times as you want to split, choose where to split on each one, and delete the unnecessary side. A single block can be split any number of times.
Is it the same for SOPs that mix video and image steps?
Yes. Split the block in step 3 only when the split point is in the middle of a video step block. Image and File steps can be deleted as is.
