For the model cycle confirmed in STEP2, classify each element into Net work / Incidental work / Waste in 3 categories. The content organized here becomes "Current state (Before)" and serves as the standard for STEP4 (Improvement).
This article is STEP3 of the Work Analysis series. For an overview, see Work Analysis overview and getting started.
State when opening STEP3
When you click [Proceed with this model] (or [Proceed as-is] for single-cycle videos) in STEP2, STEP3 opens with element drafts already filled in. Video gaps (idle time) are auto-completed as "idle time".
From here, simply make minor adjustments to the draft. You're all set.
How to think about the 3 categories
- Net work (blue): Work that adds value (processing, assembly, inspection, etc.—the actual intended purpose)
- Incidental work (gray): Work necessary to support net work (setup, movement, preparation, etc.)
- Waste (red): Unnecessary movements or wait times (searching, carrying, waiting, retrying, etc.)
In STEP4, you improve efficiency by prioritizing cutting waste, compressing incidental work, and maintaining net work.
Edit elements
Fine-tune splits (drag Gantt boundary)
In the Gantt chart below, drag the bar edge of an element to fine-tune the split position. Edges of adjacent elements move together, so the entire split remains continuous.
Add splits (Split at playback position)
- Play the video and pause at the position where you want to split
- Click [Split at playback position] in the upper left of the Gantt
- The element splits into 2, and the new element is blank and selected
Enter element name
In the element list on the upper right, enter the name for each element. Element names are also used for captions in the output video.
Change work classification (3 categories)
Click the colored dot (blue / gray / red) next to each element in the element list to cycle through Net work → Incidental work → Waste.
When you click while holding Shift, all elements with the same work name change to the same classification. This saves you from correcting each instance of repeated work one by one.
Add an element
From the [Add] button in the upper right of the element list, or from individual element operations, create a new element by borrowing 1 second from an adjacent element's time.
Delete an element
Delete unnecessary elements from the trash in the element list. The deleted time span is absorbed by the previous element (or next if there is no previous), and continuity is maintained.
Distinguish AI-analyzed elements from manually edited ones
Elements that have been manually edited show a dot to the right of the work name in the element list. Hover over the dot to see what was changed and at which stage.
- STEP2 Extraction: Changed from AI analysis results (work name / work classification / split / manually added elements)
- STEP3 Classification: Changed from the model (work name / work classification / split / cut / correction speed / merge)
We don't record who made the change. Elements without a dot are as output by AI.
This record starts from the point when you recreate the model or re-analyze. Analyses created before that point will not show dots.
Change video display (close-up of hands, subtitle position)
In the video on the left, you can perform these operations:
- Close-up of hands: Zoom by scrolling your mouse wheel on the video (on touch devices, pinch with 2 fingers). Drag to move the viewing area, and double-click to return to normal. Use this when you want to check fine hand movements
- Subtitle position: Switch the subtitle (element work name) through bottom, top, left, right, and hidden in order. The position you choose is remembered the next time you open
Understand the current state with the Work structure graph
A Work structure graph appears in the lower right of the screen. Time occupied by each of the 3 categories is shown as vertical bars, so you can see the current waste ratio at a glance.
Reset the draft
From the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, you can perform these operations:
- [Reset]: Cancel STEP3 edits and return to the initial state right after the model cycle
- Undo / Redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z): Undo/Redo edits within this step
* If you want to re-analyze element work time with AI, go back to STEP2 (Extraction) and execute [Re-analyze] (model, classification, and improvement edits will be reset).
Proceed to STEP4
When you finish organizing, click [Next] at the center bottom of the screen. The current classification is confirmed as the standard before improvement and you proceed to STEP4 (Improvement).
* If you change the structure (add / delete / split) or boundaries of STEP3 after progressing to STEP4 or beyond, a warning message appears (edits are not discarded). This may affect improvement content, so review STEP4 as needed.
Tips for effective use
- For elements where you can accept AI drafts as-is, it's smoother to start by dividing broadly rather than forcing detailed divisions
- The "idle time" element is auto-completed in red (Waste). In reality, there are waits that are necessary as incidental work, so adjust the classification to match reality
- Don't insist on one element = one action; divide by meaningful groups—this makes it easier to cut in STEP4
- In STEP6 (Comparison), this element definition is also used as the standard. With comparison in mind, organize element names and splits carefully so differences from target persons are easier to interpret later
