A Skill Map is a table that lists the skills required for work tasks and shows which skills each employee possesses. It's used to understand the skill situation within your organization and to plan structured employee development. With Dive, you can understand which users have which skills and at what level.
Positioning of Training (Courses) and Development (Skill Map)
Dive's Training and Development features are divided into two layers with different roles.
- Training (Courses): A system that bundles and distributes "a set of SOPs that must be reviewed". The goal is for users to review and complete SOPs (consume the content)
- Development (Skill Map): A system that evaluates, plans, and records "individual capability". It tracks people's growth over the long term
The basic approach is to deliver content through Training while visualizing individual state through Development. For detailed information on how to use Training (Courses), see How to create, assign, and view progress for courses (Training feature). From this article onward, we explain how to use Development (Skill Map).
ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) also has related requirements.
7.2 Competence
The organization shall:
- Determine the competence necessary for person(s) doing work under its control that affects the performance and effectiveness of the quality management system.
- Ensure that these persons are competent on the basis of appropriate education, training, or experience.
- Where applicable, take actions to acquire the necessary competence and evaluate the effectiveness of the actions taken.
- Retain appropriate documented information as evidence of competence.
NOTE: Applicable actions might include for example: provision of training to, coaching of, or transfer of currently employed persons; hiring or contracting of competent external persons; or acquisition of other forms of competence (e.g. by acquiring knowledge from experience).
What You Can Do with Dive's Skill Map
- Link Skills to SOPs: Once linked, each user's view history is aggregated as development records
- Define Skill Maps by Group: Display multiple groups side by side for list comparison. Visualize workforce plans and gaps
- Cross-team Visibility: Simplify overall team skill management through team-common skill definitions, skill standardization across groups, etc.
- Per-user Development Management: Set level-based development plans and development leads. Easy progress confirmation
- Take Skill Map Snapshots: Save the state of your Skill Map at a given point in time. Can also be used as an audit approval record
How to Read Skill Markers
Skill markers are used to visualize skill status and development implementation status at a glance. Whether development is in progress is automatically reflected when you record the target level in the development records.
| Skill Marker | Skill Level | Higher Level Development Status |
| None | Not performed | |
| In progress | ||
| Level 1 | Not performed | |
| In progress | ||
| Level 2 | Not performed | |
| In progress | ||
| Level 3 | Not performed | |
| In progress | ||
| Level 4 | - | |

How to Operate
- Create a Skill Map: Start with industry templates and organize your company's skill definition
- Set member levels: Administrators confirm the current level of each member
- Create a development plan: Set the timeframe for level-up and assign the development lead
- Update levels while operating: Periodically evaluate and update based on SOP view history and development records
- Take Skill Map Snapshots: Save the state at a given point in time (e.g., quarterly) as Excel (also useful for audit records)
Among these, the basic flow of steps 1-3 (creation, level setting, development plan) can also be confirmed in video SOPs. For detailed settings of each feature, see the articles in this section.
