The Vuzix M400 series and RealWear Navigator series display Dive with a dedicated UI. The screen is small and designed for use with both hands occupied, so the screen layout and operation methods differ from computers and smartphones. This article explains how to use the dedicated UI.
For supported devices and app installation, see About smartglasses apps. For initial setup of the device hardware, see Vuzix M400 basic operations and how to import captured videos.
Home screen
When you launch the app and log in, the home screen appears. The following items are arranged from top to bottom:
- Scan QR: scan the QR code of an SOP to open it directly
- Support Request: initiate remote support (video call)
- Video/Image: upload materials captured on the smartglasses to Dive
- Procedure list: find SOPs in folders
- Recent procedures: shows recently opened SOPs
- Settings/Log out
● Recent procedures load when that row is selected
Recent procedures do not load when you open the home screen. Loading begins when you focus on (or select) "Recent procedures". This ensures you do not wait during startup if you only use Scan QR or Support Request.
Operation methods
Controlling with buttons and touchpad
Items on the screen are outlined in blue. This is the currently selected position. Use up/down controls to move the outline, and use the select control to confirm. For device-specific button assignments, see the operation guide in About smartglasses apps.
Controlling with voice commands
Voice commands turn on automatically each time you launch the app.
On the Vuzix M400 series, if you want to temporarily stop voice commands in a noisy place, you can turn them off using the microphone button in the lower right corner of the screen when viewing an SOP. The setting is not saved, so voice commands start enabled the next time you launch. The RealWear Navigator series is designed for voice operation, so there is no option to turn it off.
● Main commands available when viewing an SOP
| Go to next step | Next / Completed |
| Go to previous step | Back / Previous |
| Open step list | List / Step list |
| Open description | Description / Text |
| Watch the video (say again to return to still image) | Video |
| Play/stop narration | Play / Stop |
| Toggle auto-advance setting | Auto |
| Open quiz | Quiz |
| Take a photo | Capture / Photo |
| Move outline up/down | Up / Down |
| Select | Select / Confirm |
| Close | Close / End |
While the step list is open, you can say a number and the outline will move to that step.
How SOPs appear
The dedicated UI displays only the step image on one screen. There is no description column on the right like on computers. You can listen to the description through narration or open "Description" to read it.
Videos do not play by default
Step images are still frames extracted from videos. Videos do not play by default. This keeps the device responsive on smaller screens.
For steps where you want to see movement, you can play the video for just that step from "Watch the video" in the lower right corner of the screen. When you advance to the next step, it automatically returns to displaying still frames.
Read step text
Use the description button in the lower right corner of the screen (or the "Description" voice command) to open the description for that step. While open, you can scroll through the description using up/down controls. Use "Close" to return to the previous screen.
Narration
If an SOP has narration configured, narration automatically starts when you open a step. When narration finishes, if auto-advance is enabled, it moves to the next step.
For SOPs without narration configured, no audio plays. For information about configuring narration, see Subtitles and narration feature.
Step list
Use the list button in the lower right corner of the screen (or the "List" voice command) to open the step list. Select from the list to navigate to that step.
Answer quizzes
For steps where quizzes are configured, the quiz appears when you try to advance. Move the outline to select an answer option and use the select control to answer. For quizzes where you enter numbers, say each digit separately (say "one" and "five" instead of "fifteen").
For quizzes that require photo submission, take a photo from the capture button. You can delete a captured photo by moving the outline to it and using the select control.
Using offline
Select an SOP from the procedure list and perform preload to open the SOP in areas without connectivity. Because the dedicated UI does not play videos, videos are not saved during preload. Images, narration audio, and descriptions are saved.
Therefore, "Watch the video" is not available offline.
Frequently asked questions
● Voice commands do not respond
If you are using the Vuzix M400 series, check whether the microphone button in the lower right corner is off. Also, voice commands only recognize specific words. Try using the words listed above.
● Only the image displays; videos do not play
This is the default behavior of the dedicated UI. To see movement, use "Watch the video".
● Description does not display
The dedicated UI does not display the description at all times. Open it from "Description" to view it.
● Performance slows down when mirroring the screen to a computer
While mirroring the smartglasses screen to a computer using Vuzix View or similar tools, the smartglasses continues capturing and transmitting the screen, which can cause choppy display and sluggish voice command response. To check performance, stop the screen transmission and test the smartglasses standalone.
Additionally, we have not verified operation when controlling from the mirroring software screen using a mouse or keyboard. Use the smartglasses hardware itself (touchpad, buttons, voice commands) for operation.
