A Skill Map is "a table that identifies the skills needed for work and lists the skills each employee possesses." It is used to understand the skill situation within an organization and plan systematic workforce development. In Dive, you can identify "which user" has "which skill" at "what level."
Positioning of "Training (Courses)" and "Development (skill map)"
Dive's Training and Development management divides roles across the following two layers:
- Training (Courses): A system for bundling and distributing "a set of SOPs that you want everyone to see." The goal is for staff to view and complete SOPs (consume the content).
- Development (skill map): A system for evaluating, planning, and recording "a person's capability." It tracks individual growth over the long term.
The basic approach is to use them in combination: deliver content through Training (Courses) and make people's status visible through Development (skill map). For details on how to use Training (Courses), see How to create and assign Courses and view progress status (Training function). From this article onward, we explain how to use Development (skill map).
ISO9001 (Quality Management System) also has related requirements.
7.2 Competence
The organization shall:
- Determine the necessary competence of person(s) doing work under its control that affects the performance and effectiveness of the quality management system.
- Ensure that these persons are competent on the basis of appropriate education, training, or experience.
- Where applicable, take actions to acquire the necessary competence and evaluate the effectiveness of these actions.
- Retain appropriate documented information as evidence of competence.
Note: Applicable actions may include, for example: providing training, mentoring, or reassignment of current persons; acquiring or contracting of competent external persons.
What You Can Do with Dive's Skill Map
- Link Skills and SOPs: When linked, each user's viewing history is aggregated as development records.
- Define Skill Maps by Group: Compare multiple groups side by side in a list. Visualize workforce plans and gaps.
- Cross-team Visibility: Define Team-common skills and standardize skills across groups, making team-wide skill management easier.
- User-level Development Management: Set development plans and development leads by level. Progress tracking is easy.
- Take snapshot of Skill Map: Save the skill map status at that point in time. Can also be used as an audit approval record.
How to Read Skill Marks
Skill marks are used to visualize Skill Status and development implementation status at a glance. Whether development is in progress is automatically reflected when you create a development record for the target level.
| Skill Mark | Skill Level | Development implementation status for higher level |
| None | Not performed | |
| In progress | ||
| Level 1 | Not performed | |
| In progress | ||
| Level 2 | Not performed | |
| In progress | ||
| Level 3 | Not performed | |
| In progress | ||
| Level 4 | - | |
